Trinbago Knight Riders Beat Patriots by 19 Runs in DLS Win

Trinbago Knight Riders made a winning start to their Caribbean Premier League 2026 title defence, beating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 19 runs under the DLS method in a rain-hit contest at Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent. The defending champions won the toss and chose to field first on a surface that offered some help to the bowlers through the evening.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots never found any real rhythm with the bat. They lost both openers inside the first two overs and slipped further when a third wicket fell just past the three-over mark. A brief recovery broke down again in the middle overs, with two more wickets going down in quick succession around the tenth over. Kevin Wickham was the one batter who managed to build an innings, anchoring the middle overs before also getting out later on. The Patriots lost their ninth wicket with less than an over remaining and finished their innings on 109 for 9 from the full 20 overs.

Sunil Narine opened the bowling for Trinbago and set the tone early, finishing with impressive figures of 3 wickets for just 7 runs. His spell was later recognised with the player of the match award.

Chasing a modest total, Trinbago's innings was interrupted by rain. Once play resumed, the target was revised through the DLS method to 76 runs from 15 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Joshua Da Silva made a start with 18 runs before getting out, but the Knight Riders never let the required rate get away from them, reaching 94 for 2 inside the revised 15 overs.

Heavier rain returned soon after the win was sealed, and with Trinbago well ahead on DLS calculations, the match was brought to an early close. The result extended St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' poor recent record against Trinbago, while the five-time champions picked up two points from their opening fixture. It was a solid start for a Trinbago side missing Andre Russell this season, with senior players like Kieron Pollard, Narine and Akeal Hosein continuing to anchor a squad that also features several newer faces.
